Salem witchhunt trials and McCarthyism Blacklist, how they assemble and connect to 21st century?

Although against different groups of people, both served the purpose of reinforcement of conformity within the community by creating common social enemy, as a mean to strengthen current power structure and social control. In Salem witchhunt trials, the initial victims were marginalized people who were accused of witchcraft. While for McCarthyism Blacklist, it prosecuted left-wing individual and communists. Both spread fear to the public of these enemy, causing social instability and thus making the society and public opinion easier to control.

In 20st century, one example of creating enemy and spread of fear to reinforce power is Hitler’s propaganda against Jewish.
